Off In A Huff

Usually I save the personal stuff for my personal blog but I thought you may enjoy some Ruby and Elkë babble so here we go....

So Ruby is home for the week. This is because it is my vacation from my job and her school (she goes to an all day everyday preschool program) says we have to pay for the entire week even though they are closed Thursday and Friday this week so I figured why not keep her home and have a 'just girls' heck of a good time?! Well so far so good. Today I managed to give her a hair cut (sort of) and get her bathed. I didn't get a shower until 2:45pm but who is counting?
So we started off the day with shooting some pics with my new camera. Here is the little Miss playing her drums but then it occurred to me that her infant sister was 10 feet away with no ear protection so I asked her to quiet down and play softly. "Um mom they are drums" is what she probably would have said but instead she just got into a huff threw down her drumsticks and stomped off. Like she was in session with Steely Dan or something. The photo below of her stomping past her daddy's drum set is priceless. It is very Abbey Road to me for some reason. Gosh do I heart my new camera.

She is kind of sensitive.

And just in case you were wondering..... we went with the Rainforest Jumperoo by Fisher-Price. It was on sale at Target for $59.99 (reg price $79.99) so it was fate.

Elkë is now 3.5 months so it's a bit early. We put something around her belly to help fill in the gap and I only let her play in it for 20 mins max so she doesn't get stressed but she seems to like it! I hate to stress her out and have her walk off in a huff! Thank you all so much for the suggestions on the jumperoo vs. saucer question. I love having hundreds of thousands of mom friends around the globe!

no pants no service

So when your toddler turns 2 and a 1/2 and they decide they want to stop wearing pants is this a normal thing? Help me fellow mamas! Ruby has decided she doesn't like pants. She barely likes her diaper. I would take this as a potty training sign but she doesn't go on the potty unless she is at her daycare. She refuses our potty and takes her pants off any chance she gets. She is a total challenge to get dressed in the morning and it's stressing me out.

Any tricks? The only thing that works and keeps her from biting me while I wrestle her is if I sing all of her nursery rhymes wrong. Such as "i know an old lady who swallowed a zebra" she just looks at me confused and I swipe the shirt over her head. This isn't going to get me very far once she figures me out I fear.

If it were summer I would not care if she wanted to be naked 100% of the time, but it's November, we live in NY and she must leave the house fully clothed.

Silly kid.

My PC Trick-Or-Treater

Well Ruby had her first Halloween where she actually is starting to understand it all. She kept her costume on for an hour which is good, it's a step up from the last 2 years, and she was rather politically correct about the whole thing which I thought to be quite hysterical.

She was a "firefighter" and the kids who come to the door to trick-or-treat are "spooky mail carriers". She put that together with the fact that we get A LOT of packages so everyone who comes to the door is a mail carrier, and that because it was Halloween, everything was spooky. At least she didn't call them "spooky pizza man", at our house it could have gone either way.

No Shoes No Service

So I am sick so you won't be seeing much of me. In this very moment I only feel a quarter bad, but in the next moment I could feel 100% bad. My entire family was blessed with some sort of hot then cold, then sore throat, body aches loveliness. We went to urgent care last night just to get throat cultures and of course before we were even seen by the Dr. we were yelled at by the nurse. Why were we yelled at? Because our child refused to wear shoes.

Ruby doesn't like to wear shoes and so she took off her crocs and demanded to go barefoot in the waiting room at the urgent care. It was carpeted and I was less than 2 ft away from her but being sick I had no energy to fight with her about her footwear choices. Sure enough when the nurse called us in to be seen she scolded my husband and I with "this child should not be barefoot!"- to which I responded- "she won't wear her shoes"- to which Ruby of course to make me look like the bad guy, put her shoes on with no resistance.

I am SO not going to bed

So this was Ruby (2yrs) a couple of weeks ago. She was supposed to be taking an afternoon nap. Does this look like napping to you? We heard her throwing her books over her gate (she is in a big girl bed now) and we went up to make sure she was okay. the sight was just too much and I had to take a photo. Note: those are tights on top of her head that she got out of her drawer. Hmm she must be sleepwalking.
