Wishing You Peace

Signing off until the New Year.

Please enjoy your families and be safe. Ruby, Elkë and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being such loyal fans of our website. Thinking back to almost a year ago when I was too sick with my pregnancy to write the daily stroll, and upon the announcement received almost a thousand emails wishing me well and asking me to start up again as soon as I could, it really warmed my heart and gave me a light at the end of the morning sickness tunnel.

It is my goal to unite you with the best in modern, designer goods for your family and I can't wait for 08'! There is more to come and our fourth year will be the best ever.

Wishing you PEACE.

Lizzie's Havin' A Party

I am having a little holiday party with some of our musical friends. The wives like to get all gussied up just for fun and I was freaking about what to wear since I just lost close to 40lbs and nothing fits- so I thought I would share what I found last minute, and a couple other things that I am going to use that day to make my life easier on a time crunch.

I don't know about you but as a mom I always make sure the house and the kids and the husband (and the food/drink) look great and give myself only 5 seconds to get ready. I am going to make an effort this weekend to give myself a bit more time but just in case I have a few tricks up my sleeve to save time.

The one thing I wish I had was a solid hour of not having to pick up a baby or take out the trash so I could let nails dry. We will see how it goes! That is what DVD's are for I think. Pop one in and let the kids watch so your nails can dry!!

Last minute dress- if you need one I suggest running into your local Target and snapping up something from Isaac Mizrahi's collection. The prices on the Internet are still higher than the store. I paid $24.98 for this little number and it is perfect! Tip: grab a size up. Isaac has been dressing women for like 20 years but still can't seem to get sizes right for us "real chicks". His shoes? Fuggedaboutit! (oh my gosh, saying that reminded me that I had a sexy dream about "Christopher" from the Sopranos last night). MEOW!

Partydress

Isaac Party Collection- THIS DRESS HAS POCKETS!!!! Pacifier, lipstick, miniature size bottle of Jack Daniels (for me silly) - it all fits perfectly! It's Navy which is my fall/winter signature color.

Shoes
Since I am going to be on my feet cooking and entertaining I think I will wear these flats with this dress. It may make me look 5lbs heavier but my feet and back will thank me. The coolest things is that Endless shoes has FREE OVERNIGHT DELIVERY! Plus they take $5 off of your order! Want to be like me and have these shoes tomorrow? You can!

Mommymakeup

I am going to do my make up really quickly with my essentials from Mommy MakeUp. LOVE their new Any Wear Creme. It does my eyes, cheeks, anywhere! I don't know if you can still get some by Xmas but you probably can by New Years Eve and it would look smashing darling!

Russiancollection

If the nail God's unite and let me have an hour to do my nails I will put on a couple coats of my fave color of the season. Siberian Nights from the Russian Collection by OPI. Want to find it? Check out your local nail salon. It's the current special collection and any OPI carrier is bound to have it.

There you have it! I am on the fence about pantyhose. I really hate it. Maybe I will just super moisturize.... nah, probably have to wear it. UGH!
I collect vintage 1/2 aprons so I will throw one over my party dress and it will all be very "June Clever". I can't wait. 1940's dress, 1940's house, cocktails (and 4 four year olds), candy canes and Brie with figs!!

Happy Holidays!

PS. Reader Julie just wrote me this and I am running out next chance I get to buy some!::

Hi....

I wanted to share with you the best invention in the history of manicures. It's quick dry drops from Essie. The box is red and white. It is essential for moms with little or no time to let nails dry.  Your nails will be super dry, as in hard as a rock dry, in five minutes! You will need this if you are planning on wearing that dark OPI polish. Have fun at the party!

Best regards,
Julie

Kea + Joby

Keaandjoby

When I saw this line I knew I had to try it out. Then I was sure that I would end up reporting on it as it is exactly what I knew it would be. Modern basics done right.

I am a Plain Jane type. I love a print now and then but my wardrobe and that of my girls (and husband) consists of greys, blues, blacks, tan, some pops of color, all solid, tight knits that are otherwise known as "basics". Sure kids need a bit more flair than basic black or grey, so a pop of light pink or orange is appreciated and goes a long way.

Kea + Joby is a line of perfect pieces sized just right, constructed of a great lightweight material that if your toddler had to take them from day to night they could. You laugh but you know your kids have a hectic social calendar and you never know when they need an outfit they can rely on for a few different settings. Kea + Joby is comfy play wear but the fabric and construction easily take it up a notch and can pass for dinner wear, church wear, going to the movies, or a Wiggles show.

The designers behind the line are Vanessa Mathison (fan of her husband Cameron Mathison of daytime television fame? all the more reason to get some of these cool duds), and Nicole Kroll. They just wanted your kids to have comfy, modern, sporty clothes just as theirs do!

Right now they are having a holiday sale- so lucky you!

Gifted Grasshopper Blog

Signaturetote

Gifted Grasshopper, one of my favorite gift ideas now offers a great tool for parents looking to find the best books on the market for their kids. Since GG was started by 2 educators it only makes sense that they can advise on age and topic appropriate titles and steer you in the direction of what your child will enjoy! Now at their brand new blog you can read book reviews and hear about new products from the company.

Gifted Grasshopper Children's Books is a online store where you can choose an educational, fun gift bursting with books (not to mention a cute stuffed grasshopper and some silly reading glasses). Baby/toddler - 3rd grade.

Loopy Design

Loopy

Keeping our eye on designers around the globe- we found Loopy, and this envious felt accessory assortment. Based in the UK, Loopy Design offers a world of whimsy. Their website is very informative re: where to buy- even in the USA so keep your eyes peeled- they are infiltrating the USA through more retailers and will be at BUBBLE LONDON this January.

Post It

Shareyourtoys

Let's just face it. Kids don't listen. We didn't listen to our parents, they didn't listen to theirs and now our kids seem to have cotton stuck in their ears (selectively). Some how the words "chocolate", "play time", "Disney Channel" ring loud and clear but words like "share", "vegetables", and "SHHHH!" don't even phase them.

The way to get the basics to register with kids I figure is to plaster instructions all over the house. Not so subtle reminders and visuals may just do the trick. If not, at least you tried and for all intents and purposes, and more importantly, you appear to have tried in the eyes of anyone who comes to visit. I mean don't your parents just love to remind you that your child is lacking manners?

This is accomplished with witty, classic style digital art prints by artist John W. Golden. Instead of calling the line "By Order of the Management" perhaps he should call the line "The Golden Rule" since his other similar works include prints that remind kids to "play nice" or "always say please and thank you".

Either way we dig it and if I am ever in the presence of Mr. Golden I will be sure to keep my elbows off the table.

Hey Mr. Willlllllllllllson!

Redwagongifts_2

The Radio Flyer red wagon is about as classic as you get when you think "classic toys". This one is filled with classic children's books. At the Red Wagon Presents website, you pick a red wagon filled with just about anything. The classic book selection in the classic small red wagon is our top pick. The little wagon makes a great addition to the playroom. A perfect size for your little one to pull his/her own books and toys through the house or neighborhood. Admit it: Just the sight of this makes you want to say "Hey Mr. Willllllllllllllson!!!!". However there is nothing menacing about this gift. It contains no batteries and it doesn't talk back.
